Samsung DC93-00278B Top Load Washer Vibration Sensor
A high-speed top-load washer needs to know exactly how its tub is moving, and in many Samsung washers that job belongs to a sensor about the size of a matchbox. The Samsung DC93-00278B is the original-equipment vibration sensor, often called the MEMS sensor, used in Samsung top-loaders from the WA48H and WA50F series to the WA54M and FlexWash models. When it stops reporting accurately, the washer plays it safe. It refuses to spin, flashes a sensor code, or keeps stopping to rebalance a load that's already fine.
How It Protects Your Washer
| Step | What Happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Measure | The sensor tracks the tub's movement in real time during agitation and spin. |
| 2. Report | It sends those readings to the main control board. |
| 3. React | If the tub moves too much, the board slows the spin, adds water or redistributes the load. |
| 4. Retry | Once the load is balanced, the washer ramps back up to full spin speed. |
Without accurate readings, the washer either won't spin at all or spins while shaking hard enough to damage the suspension and tub.
Symptoms and Causes
| What You Notice | What It Usually Means |
|---|---|
| Vibration or MEMS sensor code (often 8E or 8C) | Failed sensor or a loose sensor connector |
| Unbalance message (UE or Ub) with a small load | Sensor sending bad readings, or worn suspension rods |
| Won't spin, even with an empty tub | Sensor fault, or a lid lock or control problem |
| Violent shaking or walking during spin | Sensor not detecting imbalance, worn suspension, or an unlevel washer |
| Cycle runs much longer than normal | Washer repeatedly trying to rebalance |

Try These Before Replacing the Sensor
- Power reset: unplug the washer for 5 minutes, then run a rinse-and-spin with the tub empty.
- Rebalance the load: bulky items like comforters and bath mats can cause real imbalance.
- Level the washer: all four feet should sit firmly on a solid floor.
- Check the connector: a loose plug at the sensor or control board triggers the same codes.
- Look at the suspension: worn rods let the tub swing too freely.
If the sensor code returns with an empty tub after these checks, the sensor itself is the likely culprit.

Replacing the DC93-00278B
- Unplug the washer and shut off both water valves.
- Open the top or rear access panel to reach the outer tub.
- Find the sensor mounted on the tub and photograph its connection.
- Unplug the connector and remove the mounting screw.
- Install the new sensor in the same spot, secure it, and reconnect the wiring.
- Close up the washer, restore water and power, and run an empty rinse-and-spin to confirm it reaches full speed without errors.
Tools: a Phillips screwdriver, a 10mm nut driver or socket, a putty knife and your phone camera.
Keep Spin Cycles Smooth
- Wash heavy items with a few towels so the weight spreads evenly.
- Don't pack the tub past its recommended capacity.
- Recheck the washer's level once in a while, especially after moving it.
- If shaking continues after the new sensor is installed, have the suspension rods inspected.

DC93-00278B FAQs
What is a MEMS sensor on a Samsung washer?
It's the vibration sensor. MEMS stands for micro-electro-mechanical system, a tiny motion sensor that measures how the tub moves so the washer can detect an unbalanced load.
My Samsung washer shows 8E. What does that mean?
On many Samsung top-load washers, 8E points to a vibration sensor problem. Reset the washer and check the sensor's wiring first. If the code returns, the sensor likely needs replacing.
Will this fit my Samsung WA50K8600AW?
Yes. DC93-00278B fits the WA50K8600AW and WA50K8600AV, along with the other WA and WV models in the table above.
Does it fit Samsung FlexWash washers?
Yes. It fits the WV55M9600AW and WV60A9900AV FlexWash models.
Can I use DC93-00278A instead?
No. DC93-00278A and DC93-00278B are made for different Samsung washers. Use the number printed on your old sensor.
What part numbers does DC93-00278B supersede?
It supersedes AP5579308, PS4216272 and 2691827.
