Speed Queen D511574P Dryer Drive Motor with Pulley
Speed Queen dryers are built to last for decades, and when one finally stops tumbling, the drive motor is usually the part that's worn out, not the dryer itself. The Speed Queen D511574P is the original-equipment single-speed, 120-volt drive motor with pulley for Speed Queen gas and electric dryers. It supersedes D511629P and several older Speed Queen motor numbers, so it's the right part whether your dryer is new or decades old.
One Motor, Two Jobs
Inside the cabinet, this motor turns the drum through the drive belt and spins the blower wheel that moves heated air through your clothes and out the vent. When the motor weakens, both jobs suffer at once. The drum slows or stops, airflow drops, drying times stretch out, and the motor may overheat and shut itself off.
Symptom Guide
| What You Notice | What Could Be Wrong |
|---|---|
| Hums when you press Start, drum doesn't move | Failed motor start winding or switch, or a seized idler pulley |
| Runs for a few minutes, then stops | Motor overheating from wear, lint buildup or a blocked vent |
| Grinding or squealing from the bottom | Worn motor bearings or a failing idler pulley |
| Burning smell near the base | Overheating motor. Stop using the dryer and check it. |
| Motor runs, drum doesn't turn | Usually a broken belt, not the motor |
Before You Order
- Spin the drum by hand: if it turns freely with no resistance, the belt may be broken.
- Check the idler pulley: it should spin smoothly and quietly.
- Clear the lint: vacuum the lint trap housing and check the exhaust vent for blockages.
- Inspect the drum rollers and glides: worn parts make the motor strain.

How to Replace the Motor
- Unplug the dryer. On gas models, shut off the gas valve too.
- Open the cabinet to reach the motor, following your dryer's service manual.
- Slip the belt off the motor pulley and idler.
- Photograph the wiring connections, then unplug the harness.
- If your blower wheel mounts on the motor shaft, remove it. It's often reverse-threaded.
- Release the motor from its mounting bracket.
- Mount the new D511574P, reattach the blower wheel, reconnect the wiring, and route the belt back around the pulleys.
- Close the cabinet, restore power and gas, and test a short cycle.
Tools: 5/16-inch and 3/8-inch nut drivers, Phillips and flat-head screwdrivers, an adjustable wrench and your phone camera. While the cabinet is open, it's a good time to vacuum out lint and check the belt and idler pulley.
Keep It Running Strong
- Empty the lint screen every load.
- Clean the exhaust vent once a year, or more often for heavy use.
- Don't overload the drum.
- Replace a squealing idler pulley or worn belt before it strains the motor.

D511574P FAQs
My Speed Queen dryer runs but the drum doesn't turn. Is it the motor?
Probably not. If you hear the motor running but the drum stays still, the drive belt has most likely broken. If you hear only a hum and nothing moves, the motor or idler pulley is the more likely cause.
Will this motor work in my Speed Queen gas dryer?
Yes. D511574P is used in both gas and electric Speed Queen dryers, including the ADG and SSG gas series. Check the model table above.
Is D511629P still available?
D511629P has been superseded by D511574P, which is the correct replacement.
Do I need to buy a new pulley?
No. The drive pulley comes with the D511574P motor. Transfer your existing blower wheel from the old motor.
Can a clogged vent damage the motor?
Yes. A blocked vent makes the blower and motor work harder and run hotter, which shortens motor life. Clean the vent when you install the new motor.
What part numbers does D511574P supersede?
It supersedes D511629P, D511629, D511574, 511629P, 511629, 511574, 502368P, 502368, 510508P, 510508, 501211, AP6285329 and AP8071609.
