High Limit Dryer Thermostat
The High Limit Thermostat serves as an essential OEM replacement component that manages temperature control in various Whirlpool dryer models, including those from Amana, KitchenAid, Maytag, Jenn-Air, Magic Chef, Roper, and Admiral. It is also compatible with several models produced for Sears-Kenmore and Ikea. Its primary function is to prevent dryer overheating, thereby reducing the risk of fire and prolonging the appliance’s service life. Moreover, it ensures optimal heat levels for effective drying performance. Should the thermostat become defective, it could hinder dryer operation and may necessitate replacement to maintain proper function.
For your safety, disconnect the dryer from power before conducting any repairs. The high-limit thermostat and thermistor assembly can be found on the heating element housing. The thermistor should read a resistance of 50k to 60K ohms at room temperature. Replacing this component requires a 5/16-inch socket or nut driver and a quarter-inch socket or nut driver. Although this thermostat is designed for robustness, replacement may become necessary if it is impaired or faulty.
