Refrigerator Defrost Heater Assembly, including Harness and Thermostat
This assembly plays a critical role by ensuring cooling coils remain free from ice while stabilizing the temperature around them. It is composed of a defrost heater, a mounting bracket, a defrost thermostat, and a wiring harness.
Designed as an OEM replacement, this part is suitable for specific models of GE, Hotpoint, and Kenmore refrigerators. The defrost heater melts ice that forms on the evaporator fins during the defrost cycle; its functionality can be confirmed using a multimeter when the unit is at a low temperature.
To install, begin by disconnecting power to the refrigerator. Proceed to remove the freezer’s shelves and back panel. Detach the connector linking the heater and thermostat assembly, then take out the two screws holding the heater in place. For reinstallation, follow these steps in reverse order.
This straightforward procedure effectively ensures the refrigerator maintains optimal temperature control and prevents ice accumulation.
